Rules for Game Callenge 1

Battlefield
Each player begins play with 100 HP. The goal of the game is to reduce your opponents HP to 0.
Rules of Play
1. To begin the game, choose any square on the board to place your chosen character.
2. Each player may place their 4 barrier stones on any square on the board except where the characters were placed.
3. Each player then draws 5 cards from the deck.
4. Each player rolls a D6 to determine who goes first. Highest number wins. Roll again to break a tie.
5. To begin, roll a D6 to determine the amount of squares you may move this turn. You are allowed to move to a square forward, backward, left, or right of your current square, but you may not move back to a square you just occupied. You may move in a circle back to the initial square if you choose, but you can’t move back to that square on a single move.
Example: A player rolls the D6 and gets a 2, the player may move Forward 1 square, and Left 1 square. I cannot move Forward 1 square, Backward 1 square.
Example: A player rolls the D6 and gets a 4, the payer may move Forward 1 square, Left 1 square, Backward 1 square, and Right 1 square. This puts the player back on the initial square but is a legal move.
6. After the number of squares you can move has been determined, you may choose to move all that number, or part of that number. By the end of your turn you must have moved the complete number on the die. During your move you may play up to 1 attack card of your choice before, during, or after your complete move. However, you do not need to play a card at all.
Example: A player rolls the D6 and gets a 4, the player moves Forward 1 Square, Left 1 Square, Plays an attack card from their hand, then move Forward 2 Squares and end their turn.
7. Once your turn is complete, draw a card from the deck, and discard any cards you have played during your turn. Should the draw deck be void of cards, shuffle the discard pile and turn it into a new draw deck, then draw a card. Now your opponent goes following the same pattern of play starting at number 5. Play continues until one of the players has been defeated.
Special Rules
An attack cannot pass through a barrier stone.
A player cannot move onto a square occupied by a barrier stone or the other player.
A barrier stone may not be moved unless by a special card rule.
If a move cannot legally be completed because you would return to the square you were just on, or because you are surrounded by barrier stones, you are able to skip the rest of this turns moves. This is a special case.
You may play any special cards you have during your turn, provided you follow the instructions on the card.
If you play a special card on your turn, you may still play an attack card.
You can only have 6 cards in your hand at the end of your turn. If you have more than 6 before you draw a new card, you must discard 1 card before you draw. This means that until you draw a card from the deck, you can have 7 cards in your hand, but once you are required to draw a card, you must discard one card, before you draw.

  1. The game was fun! The barrier stones make it so every game board is different.

I might recommend more random weapons and items to mix it up, too.

  2. Stephen,

Looks like you've got a pretty interesting game here. It's a bit difficult to determine how the game is played from the rules (perhaps photos and diagrams would help). It might be useful to break the rules up into sections (i.e. 'setup', 'turn sequence', extra rules, etc).

The concept of a modifiable game board is pretty good and adds replayability. You could certainly revise the game to develop it further.

  3. I really enjoyed playing the game. As Kate mentioned the barrier stones made it a fun challenge. There was one time when I feel like I broke the rules by placing 4 barrier stones around myself so I could no longer move, but that is really based on my own stupidity rather than a game flaw I think.
