Game Challenge 11

For my digital game, I recreated virus and called it computer Virus. I used Game maker for the game, and a lot of error checking. It was kinda crazy to make, and in the end, I deleted half of it because it just made the game annoying. But for as simple as it was, it turned out alright. And the playtest went well.

Also, as a note on Scratch I don't like it. Puzzles are cool, drag and drop code, interesting, but puzzle drag and drop not so cool.

  1. I thought this was a really interesting game! It reminded me a lot of the board game that you made earlier in which there were 4 players and we had to roll dice.

I think the dice rolls in the board game version of this works better, it allows for more strategic thinking!

Overall was a great game though, loved the aspect of trying to block your opponents before they can take over to much of the board.

  2. Steven,

Nice to see you created a digital version of Virus. I didn't take a look at it in class, so you should send me a copy.

I'd like to see you go into a bit more detail on the design process for GM. What part of the game did you have to delete and why?

Same with the playtest observations. What aspects of the game did players enjoy? What parts did they have difficulty with? Did you watch their reactions? These observations are very important to playtesting because they show you what is going on at a moment-to-moment basis.

Glad you got some Scratch feedback as well. What aspect of 'puzzle drag and drop' did you not like? Was it difficult to move the pieces around once they were placed (now that you mention it, it is hard sometimes to see what is inside an if/then or loop statement and it is also hard to move pieces that have already been placed that are in the middle of a stack). These are interface issues. If they are a problem, then it may be something MIT needs to address to make the program friendlier.

  3. Your digital version of this game worked out well. I didn't think that it was entirely a great decision to make the same game over again. After all, it's a bit more fun to make something new over again! Regardless, the game was good on the computer like it was in the physical version. My suggestions for the digital are the same as for the previous.
